HOW TO OBTAIN EMERGENCY CONTRACEPTION IN McHenry County

Toby’s Fund DOES NOT FUND INDIVIDUALS. WE PROVIDE MONEY TO NON-PROFITS WHO SERVE INDIVIDUALS.

There are many reasons one might need Emergency Contraception (also known as EC, and colloquially often referred to as Plan B ). And there are a variety of types of Emergency Contraception . If you find that you or someone you know has had unplanned and unprotected sex and would prefer not to be pregnant at this time, Toby’s Fund has provided a video primer for those who seek EC. It can be found HERE (at our YouTube channel). Or listen to it on SoundCloud here. We have partnered with the American Society for Emergency Contraception (ASEC). We urge you to visit their website at: https://www.americansocietyforec.org/

The cost of Emergency Contraception ranges from anywhere from $8.00 per dose when pre-ordered to up to $50.00 per dose when purchased at a pharmacy. EC in Illinois is considered an OTC (over the counter) prescription. You do not need a doctor’s prescription to obtain a dose. Depending on the type of EC that you purchase, it is generally also covered by insurance (most insurance — including the Affordable Care Act ).

ASEC suggests that individuals desiring Emergency Contraception accumulate doses of Emergency Contraception (as one might stockpile other OTC medications). This will enable someone to purchase generic versions of EC (where the cost is significantly less) and it can be stored in a medicine cabinet.

If you have had unplanned or unprotected sex as a result of a sexual assault, Toby’s Fund has provided funding to the following McHenry County organization: The Care Center. They have been granted money by us to provide no cost Emergency Contraception. And if you are a client of WarpCorps you may also obtain emergency contraception as they are partners of Toby’s Fund.

If you are an individual who needs emergency contraception because of an unprotected sexual encounter, and you haven’t stockpiled emergency contraception, U.S. pharmacies should carry Plan B or Ella (recommended for someone over 165 pounds, or 75 kg). If the cost is too high, coupon cards can be utilized (such as GoodRx, Optum Perks, SingleCare, ScriptSave WellRx, Blink Health, RxSaver and others).

To order emergency contraception to have on hand and store in your medicine cabinet, generic EC prices are much less and equally effective. Large retailers such as RiteAid, Telehealth, Walmart, Amazon, CVS, lemonaidhealth, Costco, etc.
